Recently, Microsoft said in a blog post that some Windows 10 devices will not get the Windows 11 update as they do not meet the minimum requirements of the new system. The company has advised such users to leave the old Windows 10 computer and buy a new Windows 11 PC.
However, the Windows 11 experience is not always great, especially when it comes to its latest feature update, Windows 11 24H2 Update. Last month, Microsoft removed a gaming-related upgrade block (Safeguard Hold ID: 52796746).
Now, the company has implemented a new block on some new devices. The reason behind this is the compatibility issue of sprotect.sys driver, which is causing problems like system freeze, blue screen, or black screen on Windows 11 24H2.
Microsoft reported this issue:
> Microsoft is currently working with SenseShield Technology Co on a problem related to compatibility between Windows 11 24H2 and the sprotect.sys driver.
> This driver is used for data encryption and may be automatically installed in many security software and enterprise solutions. This issue may affect all devices with versions 1.0.2.372 or 1.0.3.48903 of the sprotect.sys driver installed.
To prevent this issue, Microsoft has blocked the Windows 11 24H2 update on these devices. If this driver is present on your system, Windows Update will not offer you this update.
If you have a Windows Home or Pro edition, and your device is affected by this hold, a message will appear within Windows Update that says: “You do not need to take any action right now.”
IT administrators can track this issue in Windows Update for Business reports under Safeguard ID: 56318982.
Microsoft advice:
Microsoft recommends that you do not try to manually install the Windows 11 24H2 update until the issue is resolved. The company said it is working with SenseShield to fix the bug as soon as possible.
